Help the homeless in Littlehampton

GENEROUS Gazette readers are being encouraged to help homeless and vulnerable people this Christmas.

We have teamed up with Littlehampton-based charity HOMElink to launch an appeal to keep homeless, hungry people warm and well-fed at what is traditionally a time of plenty.

Our appeal has two strands – firstly, we are asking for warm clothing, hats, gloves, coats, as well as blankets and sleeping bags, for people who may be sleeping outside or who have just arrived in the area and have nowhere to go.

Secondly, we are supporting HOMElink’s successful scheme, the Littlehampton Larder, which provides emergency food parcels for families or individuals at a time of crisis, for example if a benefit cheque arrives late, or their money has simply run out.

For the Larder, HOMElink is appealing for tinned, packaged and dried foods which are then boxed up and distributed using a voucher scheme.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and would go a long way to making Christmas more bearable for someone who might otherwise be going through difficult times.

Donations can be taken to HOMElink’s The Ark, in New Street, Littlehampton, from Monday to Friday, 10am-noon and 1-3pm, but not Tuesday morning.

You can also take them to the charity’s other projects, Mead View Nursery, in Lyminster Road, Lyminster, or Five Stones Nursery, at Toddington Lane, Toddington.

HOMElink operations director Kevin Finnon said the community in Littlehampton and the surrounding area had been “absolutely fantastic” in its support of HOMElink.

“I’ve been working directly for HOMElink only for six weeks, but I have been amazed by the response we get from business, groups
and individuals. It’s incrediible.

“When I go home to my family and friends in Dover at weekends, they must get fed up with me telling them about the generosity of the people in Littlehampton.”

Over the next few weeks we will be carrying news about the appeal and how you can help HOMElink.
