A horse was reported ‘trapped’ after a vehicle slid off the road into a ditch near Pulborough yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene at Hill Farm Lane in Codmore Hill just after 1.15 pm. They had received reports of ‘a large animal’ being trapped.

A heavy rescue vehicle and a crew from the service’s Technical Rescue Unit were also called to help.

A spokesman said: “On arrival, it was established a horsebox had slid off the road, and was tilted.

“Crews were able to stabilise and secure the vehicle, and the horse was led to safety.”

The emergency crews spent nearly two hours at the scene.
