Two customers who suffer from asthma were treated at the scene.

The incident happened while the Horsham district branch of Age UK held a charity barbecue, karaoke and raffle at the pub.

Monica von Steiger, assistant activities co-ordinator for dementia clubs in West Sussex, said the group was told pepper spray had been used in a toilet.

Despite the brief closure, the charity day raised £540 for Age UK Horsham District.
