Horsham pupils bank on cash help

PUPILS in Horsham are learning to manage their own finances with the opening of a school bank.

The scheme is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland's education programme MoneySense For Schools.

MoneySense coach Karen Wilson and Gary Maher from the RBS branch in Horsham have helped set up the bank for pupils aged 11 to 16 at The Forest School.

With guidance from RBS, the school bank will be run by Year 8 pupils who have successfully applied for jobs such as bank manager, account opening manager and marketing manager, and have received cashier training from RBS staff.

Pupils can open an account and pay in money. They will also receive statements to help them understand how to run a bank account.

Assistant headteacher Mark England said: "We believe that this initiative will benefit the pupils immensely."
