Hospital wards in virus scare

CHILDREN and people who have been ill are being told to stay away from two wards at St Richard's Hospital following a suspected outbreak of the norovirus.

The Chichester hospital is reporting suspected cases of the winter diarrhoea and vomiting illness among patients in both Barnham and Singleton wards.

Hospital spokeswoman Sue Hines said: 'As patients may remain infectious for up to 48 hours after the end of the symptoms.

'The hospital is requesting that visiting on Barnham and Singleton wards is kept to a minimum '“ no children will be allowed and anyone who has been unwell not to visit at all. This is purely a precautionary measure and the rest of the hospital is continuing to operate as normal.'
