CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30 am service this coming Sunday will be Parish Eucharist led by Rev. Malcolm Pickering. This is the 4th Sunday before Advent. On Monday we remember Martin Luther from 1546, All Saints’ day is on Monday 1st November and All Souls’ Day on Tuesday. And of course, there is Hallowe’en. Some people have a lot of fun at this time, some people strongly dislike the Americanisation of it with Trick or Treat. Having done a lot of research into the history of Hallowe’en, I have discovered that it all began as a religious festival. Hallowe’en falls on 31st October because of a Pope and its observances are the result of medieval Catholic piety.

WEATHER: Grey, much cooler especially at night now. I have yet to see the meteor showers near Orion because it has been cloudy each evening. There are plenty of Michaelmas daisies still around and chrysanthemums too. And I have lovely roses flowering on. If you like indoor bulbs especially at Christmas time, they should be planted now.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music to be played for your entertainment this coming Sunday between 4 and 6 pm will be played by Cut the Mustard playing Hot Stuff. On Wednesday 2nd November there will be a Quiz Night beginning at 8.30 pm in aid of Macmillan.

BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS: On Saturday 5th November there will be a massive gert bonfire, fireworks, a licensed bar, hot food and ice cream at the Robin Hood Inn. Gates open at 6.30 pm. Tickets are £3 for those aged over 12 and £2 for those under 12. The funds raised are used to benefit organisations and charities in the village. There is usually a drumming band, and always a lot of fun.

WINCHELSEA SINGERS: There will be performances of Die Fledermaus - The Bat - in the New Hall at Winchelsea today, Friday 28th at 2 pm and Saturday 29th October at 7 pm. Tea and biscuits will be available on Friday and a bar on Saturday. It will be sung in English with guest soloists and choir members. Duncan Reid conducts .

END OF BRITISH SUMMER TIME: Remember to set your clocks BACK one hour on Saturday evening or you will being out of sinc with everyone on Sunday.
