CHURCH NEWS: The service this coming Sunday will be Morning Prayer at 10.30 am, for the 8th Sunday of Trinity. We are very sorry indeed to hear of the retirement of Rev’d Canon Hugh Mosely. He will be moving to Ringmer in the autumn to be “properly” retired this time. This is a blow to the village and there are going to be difficulties about services each week after he has left. We wish you and Annabelle a happy retirement.

THE VILLAGE FETE AND FLOWER SHOW: This village event on the Recreation Ground on Saturday 1st August from 1 pm.Any offers of help would be very welcome, contact Sandra Stunt. Raffle tickets are on sale in the Icklesham Stores and all village groups have some.If you know of anyone who has an old or interesting vehicle which they would like to exhibit on the day, please put them in touch.

BOWLS CLUB: Icklesham bowls Club is running the Teas at the Fete and Flower Show. Any donations of cakes, sausage rolls and filled sandwiches etc. plus any help during the day would be very much appreciated. Contact Eric Butler or Stuart Baker if you require any further information.

NEW PAVILION SUPPORTERS: In the next few weeks, repairs on the old pavilion will be carried out. I can assure you all that any money we have raised for the New Project will NOT be spent on the old asset. The Trust will pay £200 excess on their insurance to get the repairs done. We will have to wait and see how much the premium increases to get a true cost. After our last trust meeting it was proposed that Cllr. Nick Warren would contact the Parish Clerk to arrange for the Parish Councillors to discuss the New Pavilion Footprint and then arrange a meeting with the New Pavilion sub-committee. It must be said that Nick has been very proactive in setting up this proposed meeting with his fellow PC members. Hopefully we will soon have something to report on the footprint. Thank you Stuart for this information.

MORE FROM STUART: The Blakey’s will return to Icklesham on Saturday 5th September to raise funds for the New Pavilion. Tickets are £5 each and are available from Stuart. It is “bring your own drink”.This has the potential of being a very good social evening. Please give your support. There is a Murder Mystery Evening pencilled in for January. More information in due course.

WEATHER: What a mixed week it has been. It isn’t always clear whether to wear sun lotion or take an umbrella. Some days have been really warm, but the evenings have been decidedly cool. Although I have picked my first few runner beans, they are a bit late, probably due to these cool nights.

ARCHERY: I understand from Tom that there may be a “have a go” offer of archery at the Summer fete. This would be a good opportunity to give it a try.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music on Sunday 26th will be played by Tea Chest Blues, again described as brew up. Still don’t know what that means! On Wednesday 29th there will be a Quiz in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice. Following the recent disastrous fire there, it is very important to support them all we can.

ROBIN HOOD INN: Have you booked your tickets for the Vintage Garden Afternoon Tea Party being held on Sunday 26th July? The cost is £ 14.95 per person.It is a booking only event, and the pub will be closed. The jollifications begin at 5.30 pm until late, with music by Ricochet and Mr. Steve Sinatra.

SCHOOL NEWS: The school is now closed for the summer holidays. We wish all children, teaching staff, ancillary staff, cooks, grounds men and anyone connected with the school, a really good break, with lots of relaxation and refreshment. Enjoy.

ORGAN CONCERT: The concert on 27th July at All Saints Church Hastings, will be played by Dr. David Flood from Canterbury Cathedral.
