Scouts held an emotional ceremony at a church in Ifield to mark Remembrance Sunday today (November 8).
The congregation of St Margaret’s Church joined 2nd Ifield (St Margaret’s) Scout Group at the memorial in Ifield churchyard for two minutes’ silence and wreath laying.
The ceremony included prayers, remembering those who had died in wars and for peace, the last post and reveille.
This was preceded by a service at the church, attended by 70 Scouts and their families, and followed by the normal Sunday service in the church.
The church was full for both services.
The Rector of Ifield, Rev Simon Newham, preached and referred to recent meetings he had with members of the armed forces who had served in the Second World War.
Wendy Keeley, group Scout leader for 2nd Ifield Scouts, congratulated members on the large number of Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts present in church and at the war memorial.
