Leylands Road in Burgess has been closed off due to a burst water main.

South East Water confirmed its engineers were on site 'working hard to fix the main as soon as possible'. A spokesman said customers in the are may be experiencing no water or low water pressure. "We would like to apologise for any convenience caused," added the spokesman. A spokesman for Burgess Hill Town Council said: "There is a burst water main on Leylands Road, at the junction with Mill Road. It is being repaired but at the moment Leylands Road is closed around the junction with no access into or out of Mill Road. An update will be posted once it is re-opened." South East Water’s distribution manager Tony Hillocks said: “We have repaired a burst on a six inch diameter water main in Freeks Lane at the junction with Leylands Road in Burgess Hill. For safety, we have had to close the road and it will need to stay shut until the carriageway is repaired. A diversion is in place and we are working as quickly as possible. All customers whose supplies were interrupted while we carried out the work should now have their water back on. Unfortunately leaks and bursts do happen on our extensive water network, which have to withstand high pressure 24 hours a day, every day. We know when incidents happen it causes disruption to customers, motorists and the wider community and we like to thank everyone for their patience while we carry out the necessary work.”
