Indoor bowls club marks 30 years with historic match

Grattons Indoor Bowls Club marked its 30th anniversary today (Wednesday October 23) by replaying a match which was held when the club first opened.

Grattons Indoor Bowls Club plays 30th anniversary game against the Sussex County Indoor Bowls Association

Six teams from Grattons and the Sussex County Indoor Bowls Association came together for the historic game at the Pound Hill club, in Grattons Drive.

President Derek Marchant said: “I wasn’t here 30 years ago, but I’ve been 29 years and we love it. On Sunday we are hosting Sussex vs Berkshire Indoor County Competition.

“Eleven weeks ago today I had a hip operation and I was determined to be fit for this game and didn’t think I would be.

“Everything we do here is done by volunteers apart from the franchise for the restaurant and cleaners.

“Other than that we look after it ourselves.”

Sussex
