A Crawley based charity which helps families faced with crisis is looking for people to join them on its board of trustees.
Home-Start CHAMS works in Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex to support families experiencing a range of issues, such as isolation, neglect, financial hardship, illness, disability or bereavement.
They train their volunteers to visit families to help them deal with their problems in their own home
As part of National Volunteers Week, they are appealing for people to think about becoming a trustee or join them as a volunteer.
Businessman David Turner is one of their existing trustees who joined them five years ago.
David has worked in insurance since leaving school and has a senior role in the London based, international firm Talbot Underwriting.
He said: “I discovered Home-Start CHAMS and the help they give to vulnerable young families.
He said: “I was immediately warmed by the work that they do and the changes that can be made to the quality of life for families they support.”
As one of the trustees for, David has been closely involved in the running of the charity.
In the past year, the charity worked with 146 families, supporting 355 children helping them deal with difficulties such as domestic abuse, financial problems, or mental health issues.
David added: “I’ve been able to directly influence the way the charity is developing and how they go about raising the money they need, to make sure they can continue their work.”
“Being a trustee with Home-Start CHAMS has given me a sense of perspective on really important issues – health and family.
“I’ve found the staff and volunteers truly inspirational and it’s immensely rewarding to see families whose lives have been changed for the better and feel that you’ve had a part in that.”
