FIREFIGHTERS were called to a basement kitchen fire in Turners Hill earlier this morning.

Five fire engines were dispatched to a three-storey building in East Street at 3.53am.

Two high pressure hose reels, two jets, one hydrant and two thermal imaging cameras were used to tackle the blaze and eight firefighters wore breathing apparatus.

Everyone was evacuated from the building safely. The cause of the fire has still not been established.

Three fire engines remain at the scene.
