Brilliant Brighton, which organises the city centre’s Christmas lights, has given Brightonians three choices of festive phrases to light up the city.

Running until Wednesday (September 6), the poll will see one of three words and phrases - Ho Ho Ho, Glitter and Diversity - be voted on by local residents, with the winning word to join favourites from last year, such as Ding Dong, #Fairy and Love.

Brilliant Brighton, the business improvement district (BID) for the city centre, is formed of 517 businesses, which contribute around £75,000 per year to light up the city centre during the festive period.

The three words up for the public vote were shortlisted by the Brilliant Brighton board of directors, after city centre members were invited to submit their suggestions.

But now, it’s over to the public to decide which word they feel encompasses Brighton best.

Shelley Welti, media officer for Brilliant Brighton, said: “Plans are already underway to ensure Brighton shines, especially, at Christmas.

“After the success of last year’s Christmas lights, we wanted local residents to be able to get involved and help to choose a word that captures that famous Brighton spirit.

“So have your say and you could just see it lighting up the city centre this Christmas!”

This year’s Christmas lights will be switched on in November, with more details revealed nearer the time.
