Lively debate on Alternative Vote

Fresh from controversy Bexhill MP Greg Barker will attend a local debate on the forthcoming Alternative Vote Referendum tomorrow night (Friday April 15).

Just last week he sparked headlines for his comments in the US that recent Government cuts in services were something Margaret Thatcher could only “have dreamed of”.

He will speak for the Conservatives against AV alongside Peter Botting, leading political speech writer who has worked in three USA Administrations and now works for many Tory MPs.

Speakers supporting AV include Lib Dems and Labour’s national Yes2AV campaign

A lively debate is expected, according to one of the organisers Philipa Coughlan of Bexhill’s Labour party.

The debate starts from 7-7.30 p.m. - 10 p.m at Parkhurst Hall in Parkhurst Road.

Philipa said: “We will also be asking the audience to particpate in a ‘mock fun ballot’of Party Leaders (Cameron, Clegg and Miliband) using both methods which hopefully will help to engage in the process.”
