SHOPPERS at family owned Peasmarsh supermarket Jempsons have helped raise £465 toward the much needed restoration of Peasmarsh Memorial Hall.

The money was collected throughout the year from an in-store donations box.

The cheque represents a further donation towards the restoration of Peasmarsh Memorial Hall which finally received Lottery funding in August 2012 .

Work has started and is progressing very well despite the weather.

Hilary Pankhurst Secretary to the Memorial Hall Committee said: “Unfortunately the roof wasn’t as sound as we had hoped and will have to be completely refurbished so we will be continuing to fund raise as hard as we can.

“It is anticipated that the work will be completed in Spring next year and the Hall will be back in business as soon as possible after that.”

Stephen Jempson said: “The village hall is a central part of our community life; both Andrew and I would like to thank our customers for their generosity which has made this donation possible.”

The Memorial Hall is used by a range of groups in the village, including the local Brownies who have been supporting the restoration project.

Jempsons has already made donations to the cause from a community fund it set up.
