Man arrested after burglary

A POLICE dog handler has arrested a Hastings man after a vehicle was spotted making off from the scene of a burglary at Winchelsea Beach.

Police received calls, shortly after 11pm on November 16 reporting a burglary to a caravan at the Winchelsea Sands Holiday and Caravan Park and a vehicle, a dark green Rover was seen to drive off.

Details of the car were circulated to all patrols, and it was spotted being driven in Saxon Road, Hastings shortly afterwards

A Sussex Police dog handler on patrol saw the car, and, when the driver decamped and attempted to make off, he was chased and caught by the officer and arrested

David Wallace, 33, from Priory Road, Hastings, was taken to Hastings Police station on suspicion of burglary.

Following an interview with detectives the following morning, Wallace was charged with burglary of a caravan in Winchelsea Beach.

Appearing before magistrates last week, Wallace was not asked to enter a plea, but was granted bail, with a 7pm-7am night time curfew.

He will be electronically tagged until his next court appearance on December 30 for a committal hearing.
