Man arrested after young woman followed in Crawley is released without charge

A man who was arrested after a young woman was followed has been released without charge.

Sussex Police was called to a report of a man following her in Haslett Avenue East at 2.30am on December 20.

A spokesman said: “A driver noticed that a man appeared to be following a woman and trying to talk to her about borrowing a lighter.

“When the driver stopped and asked the woman if she was ok, the man quickly turned around and walked away in the opposite direction.”

A man was arrested shortly after on suspicion of possession of cannabis.

Sussex Police appealed for witnesses, pending further enquiries.

A spokesman said: “There was no response to the media appeal and the woman has not been identified. The man was stood down from his bail as after investigation there was insufficient evidence to proceed against him for any offence.”
