Sergeant Josephs and PC Wood have both been awarded Royal Humane Society Testimonials on Parchment for their action. They have also won the personal praise of Andrew Chapman, secretary of the Royal Humane Society.
As he announced the award Mr Chapman said: “This literally was a case of the long arm of the law coming to the rescue [of the man]. It was a precarious situation.
“Thankfully though they managed to hold him tight and then get him to safety for which he is now obviously grateful.
“I gather he has said he would like to meet them to say thank you in person. Both officers without doubt richly deserve the awards they are to receive.”
