Market stall to sell the power of prayer in Bognor Regis

A woman who says she can hear again has been a success story of a Bognor Regis church's market stall.

Members of the King's Gate Church have been inviting visitors to the seafront market on recent Saturdays to visit them for a prayer.

Anyone who has needed encouragement, hope or improved health has been made welcome by church members such as married couples, Don and Helen Eldridge and Ben and Louise Leney.

They have been so pleased with the response they intend to continue at the market between 10.30am until 1pm on Saturdays until the end of September. They intend to return next spring.

Church member Elizabeth Hickmore said: "As a church, we believe in the power of Jesus being the same yesterday, today and forever and frequently pray for healing.

"Some people are able to e-mail us and give us news of how effective the prayers have been. Sometimes, people have felt an immediate benefit.

"One of the most exciting testimonies was from a lady who was visiting Bognor and we prayed for her deafness. She e-mailed to say she normally needed subtitles to make sense of the TV but realised she did not need them after this prayer." Among the other conditions which have been subject to the heavenly help are post-stroke weakness, weak and painful knees, cancer and back pain.

All the requests are met with prayers on Saturdays and at church meetings on Tuesday evenings.

Ms Hickmore said the idea of becoming part of the market on the Place St Maur arose from thoughts about reaching out to the town's residents. Contacts made with a church in South Wales which was doing a similar scheme gave encouragement to try out the initiative.

"We have 'welcome services' to invite people to from time to time but being out there in the market gives the people a chance of us coming to the town rather than the other way around.

"We have been made very welcome by the market traders, who have often had to help us keep our gazebo earth-bound in the high winds," she added.
