Mayfield promises not to make planning application before local plan is in place

Mayfield Market Towns recently wrote a letter to Mid Sussex District Council and Horsham District Council, in which it set out guarantees to stand by the outcome of the local plan processes.

A Mayfield spokesperson laid out the three commitments made in the letter: “We undertake not to pre-empt the outcome of the Local Plan Process with a premature application or appeal.

“We undertake to accept the housing need conclusions at the completion of the four local plans; if more homes than presently planned for are not needed, we will withdraw our proposals.

“We undertake that even if the adopted local plans do identify the need for more homes than presently planned for, we will not apply for permission (or appeal) if additional locations excluding Mayfields are identified in the adopted Local Plans to meet these additional housing needs.”

The developer has been previously featured in the Middy for offering Twineham farmer Robert Worsley £275million for his land, and being turned down.

Residents accused the developer of trying to bypass the planning process by attempting to buy and build on land which is not considered appropriate for housing by local people or councils.
