Court Meadow Group Riding for the Disabled is moving to Horsted Keynes and new volunteers are welcome.

Sue Welch, one of the trustees, said: “Five years ago Court Meadow Group Riding for the Disabled made the move from a venue they had used for many years at Ditchling Stud on Ditchling Common after this venue was closed down and the area developed for new housing.

“We moved all our equipment to Albourne Equestrian Centre and have enjoyed several years here using their riding school ponies even though during this time this venue was also sold for possible future development.

“We celebrated 40 years of the existence of the group here and were assured that we could still carry on being based at these premises as the riding school, renamed as Horsham and Mid Sussex Equestrian Academy, would continue under new management set up by the developers.

“Unfortunately this arrangement has not lasted for long and very recently we discovered the premises are being rented out privately from January.

“The ponies we have used in this riding school are now being sold to new homes.

“However, we are very much indebted to Tremaines Riding School in Horsted Keynes for quickly agreeing to be the new ‘home’ for us and our pupils. The group will now operate from here in the new year.”

Sue said the group will continue to work with pupils from Woodlands Meed in Burgess Hill. It said pupils benefit from its riding therapy sessions in ‘so many ways’.

Sue said people who are interested in volunteering do not need to have previous knowledge of riding or pony care as instruction will be given.

She added: “It’s very rewarding to see how these young people develop new skills. It’s also good exercise for us all and there is also an indoor riding school available if the weather is not kind on the day!”

The group meet on Thursday mornings working with pupils starting sessions from 10am and finishing around midday.
