Councillor Jonathan Ash-Edwards, leader of Mid Sussex District Council, said the move was an important step in recovering from the coronavirus pandemic.

He added: “Along with the whole country, people in Mid Sussex have made huge sacrifices during these last few months and the latest relaxation of restrictions is only possible because of our collective efforts to reduce the spread of the virus.

“I know people have been waiting patiently to have a meal out, a social drink with friends and a much needed haircut and I’m delighted that these things will be possible once more.”

Lockdown has been a tough period for everyone, but it has been particularly difficult for businesses that have been asked to remain closed, Mr Ash-Edwards said.

He added: “Now is the time to support our local businesses by using their services and buying their products, helping them to get back on their feet and enabling people to return to their jobs.

“All the businesses that are reopening will be following strict Government guidelines to ensure they can operate safely and we must play our part by supporting our local businesses whilst having respect for others and observing the new social distancing guidance.”
