Middleton pub team clean up in Arun bath tub race

Pub-goers in Middleton won a cup when they took to the water.

The crew from The Beresford received the Black Rabbit trophy for the most entertaining entry in this year's River Arun bath tub race.

Paul Taylor, Andy Scott, Andy Wiggins, Ben Mearns and Linda Loughlin dressed as cocktail waiters as they sailed down the river in a decked and carpeted bath surrounded by beer barrels.

A waist-high bar with bar stools featured pumps, drip trays, bar towels and optics. The craft overturned several times, shedding crew, stools and 48 new cans of Fosters along the way.

The race's organiser, Felpham resident Martin Harvey, was first overall entry home on Sunday and winner of the prize for first metal bath.

He and Graham Smallbones took part in the military-themed Tub Squadron.

Some 1,000 was raised for the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice by the antics of the 115 competitors in the 36 teams.
