Mini Olympics for Kids

FORMER Olympic athlete Sean Baldock came to Bexhill Leisure centre last week to help encourage kids into sport.

Baldock competed in the 4X400 relay team at the 2004 Olympics, and is now involved with Active Rother, set up by the Rother District Council. The scheme is aimed to help provide people in the Rother area with opportunities to get active.

Active Rother have recently been involved with Freedom Leisure, and the 'Mini Games' day at the Leisure Centre was designed to encourage more kids to get active. Baldock described it as: "bringing something new for the kids to do. It's not everyday they get the chance to get involved with indoor athletics."

The day also fell on the same day as the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, and this was very much the theme. All the exercises were similar to athletic events, like javelin and hurdles. Baldock had given up his time for free to come and help the kids, as the day was also free for anyone to join in.
