Morrisons confirms locations of possible store closures

National supermarket chain Morrisons has confirmed the locations of the 11 stores which could close as part of cost saving measures.

The retailer announced last Thursday (September 10) it would be shutting the supermarkets as part of a £1bn cost saving programme.

A company spokesman said no stores in Sussex were currently going through the consultation processes.

Morrisons confirmed the following supermarkets could be closed:

n Burnham on Sea (Somerset)

n Castletown (Sunderland)

n Clevedon (Somerset)

n Little Hulton (Greater Manchester)

n Northallerton (North Yorkshire)

n Oldbury (West Midlands)

n Salford (Greater Manchester)

n Shildon (County Durham)

n Streatham (London)

n Tyldesley (Wigan)

n West Bromwich (Hawthorns), West Midlands

It is reported 900 jobs could be at risk.

Morrisons, which has supermarkets in Crawley, Worthing, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, reported its half yearly profits before tax had dropped from £239m in 2014/15 to £126m.

It also stated its annual turnover for the same period fell to £8.1bn, down 5.1 per cent on last year.

On Wednesday September 9 the retailer announced it had sold 140 M Local stores for £25m, including the store in Littlehampton.
