Multiple fire engines on the scene of Gatwick hotel blaze

Multiple fire engines are tackling a blaze at a hotel near Gatwick.

The fire service is on the scene of the fire involving a premises on London Road near Gatwick a spokesman said. The blaze is at the Ibis Hotel.

He added: “Joint Fire Control was alerted to reports of a fire on the fifth floor of the building at 2.56pm this afternoon and mobilised crews from Horsham and Crawley to the scene along with Surrey Fire & Rescue Service appliances from Dorking, Reigate and Salfords.”

The aerial ladder platform from Horsham has also been sent to the scene along with the service’s technical rescue unit and the drone, he added.

The spokesman added: “The building has been safely evacuated, and we would urge people to avoid the area to allow crews to work safely.

“We remain at the scene of this incident on London Road, and are in the process of bringing in relief crews. We expect to be in attendance for some time yet, and would continue to urge people to avoid the area.”
