Nappy week - helping parents save money

Parents in East Sussex can beat the credit crunch by using washable nappies.

To find out how, they can visit one of the events across the county as part of the 13th annual Real Nappy Week (April 27 to May 3).

ESCC staff will be joining other members of The Nappy Network to hit the road spreading the news about washable nappies.

According to Go Real, parents could save up to 1, 000 by using washable nappies and then make further savings by passing them down to younger siblings to be used again.

The Council also has an innovative scheme which enables local parents to borrow loan packs of washable nappies for 40. When the nappies are finished with they are collected, washed by a local nappy laundry company and then packaged up and lent out to another family.

Alternatively, if a family buys their own washable nappies, there is also a strong second-hand market for many washable nappy brands so parents can recoup some of their initial outlay.

As well as the financial gains, many parents are attracted to washable nappies by the environmental benefits. By using real nappies, parents can help to tackle climate change, reduce the amount of household rubbish they are producing and give their children a better future.
