Nature reserve targetted by '˜mindless' vandals

Malcolm Walls, who reported the incident to police, told the Crawley Observer that the bridge was a crossing point for the stream in Waterlea Conservation Area, Furnace Green.

“This type of act is unacceptable in such a pretty conservation area, or anywhere come to that,” he said.

“What was going through their mind at the time of this destruction and why do they not respect the community in which they live in?”

Mr Walls said he knew of one previous occasion when the bridge had been vandalised, but not as badly as this.

“Someone knows who has done this and now made a picturesque crossing dangerous for young and old,” he said.

“They need to be caught and brought to account for their mindless actions.”
