Netherfield Stores and Post Office: Wandering into the stores yesterday I was amazed at the progress that had already been made and the changes that have been effected in this bastion of the community. You can feel the buzz of excitement that pervades the entire outlet. It will be great to be able to conduct business at the Post Office and then have a relaxing drink and maybe a piece of cake, or a meal into coffee shop, after browsing and purchasing something in the store.

The fact that they have been able to continue to operate, despite all the difficulties of space and disruption is truly amazing. With the good weather around the corner, I can see myself at a table and chair, outside the main door in the sun, sipping a latte with a slice of lemon drizzle tempting my taste buds, as I watch the world going by. The smell of new mown grass will also be invading my nose as they finish tidying the “children’s play area” in front of the shop.

With a bit of luck and a fair wind behind those builders it may be ready by the end of the week. Then we will soon forget that this is all new a new departure for the Netherfield Stores and Post Office.

Netherfield Gardens: This is always a wonderful time of year when the gardens are shedding their winter cloak and we are subjected to the beginnings of new life once again in our gardens. Primroses, cowslips and the green shoots of perennials help us cast aside the cold feel of the early months of the year. Gardening programmes on the TV and radio suggest lists for us all of the jobs we should be attempting at this point in time if we want to keep ahead in the gardening game.

Potatoes, cucumbers, salad leaves and the like all need to be sown in pots or, in some cases, outside, ready to grace out tables in summer. There is nothing so satisfying as seeing the results of our labours as we pick the resultant produce in the confines of our vegetable plats. Happy gardening everyone.
