The lights are hoped to improve safety along the footpath in Ewhurst Wood in Langley Green.

A borough council spokesman said they were erected after officers visited the site and consulted residents.

He said: “Everyone supported the scheme, with just one comment received asking that the proposals be bat-friendly.

Bats are known to fly in and around Ewhurst Woods so the position and design of the lights have been chosen to protect the welfare of the flying mammals.”

The lights were due to be switched on by UK Power Networks before the end of March.

Councillor Michael Jones, Cabinet member for Community Engagement and Public Protection, said: “I’m pleased that these new street lights received local support and would like to thank all the residents who responded to our consultation.

“This is a path that gets incredibly murky at night. When the lights are switched on residents will be able to use the footpath without fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.”

The consultation formed part of the council’s Community Safety Improvements Programme (COMSIP).

A spokesman said: “The physical appearance of our environment can play a key role in whether we feel safe in a particular area. Small changes, such as new streetlights or the cutting back of overgrown bushes, can make a huge difference to people’s lives, making an area feel safer and reducing fear of crime.”
