New name for county council service

A COUNTY COUNCIL service for parents of disabled children has been given a new name.

West Sussex County Council’s Sitting Service will be known as Fun and Breaks.

However the aim is still the same:

To support families of disabled children by giving them the chance to take a break from caring.

To give the disabled child greater opportunities to take part in everyday activities.

As Michelle Watts, Fun and Breaks Manager, said: “Caring for a disabled child can be a tough task and a break can make all the difference.

“The disabled child may also need additional support to access everyday activities and to participate fully in society.

“That’s the value of Fun And Breaks and that’s why we are looking for volunteers who could offer just a couple of hours a week to give a family a helping hand, either by caring for the child at home or by taking the child out to do an activity.

“Full training and support is given, so no special experience is required.”

Peter Evans, County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “The new name – Fun and Breaks – sums up our sitting service perfectly because that is what it offers.

“It’s fun for the child who is being cared for and can be fun for any brothers and sisters they may have. It gives families a break – the opportunity to enjoy activities and leisure pursuits so many of us take for granted.”
