New name, new start for refurbished care centre

A DURRINGTON day centre offering respite care and support for dementia sufferers and their families opens its doors this week after being refurbished.

New Tyne, in Durrington Lane, formerly known as East Tyne, has an improved, expanded day centre with places for 30 people from Monday to Friday and 10 at weekends.

Twenty en-suite bedrooms are available for emergency placements, short-term respite care and assessments.

Home care and outreach teams, including the Intensive Support and Outreach Team (ISOT) will also be based at the centre.

The Alzheimer's Society will provide information and training to sufferers and their carers and the centre will also home an advocacy service.

"People with dementia and their carers and families need the best care and support that we can offer," said Pat Arculus, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Adults' Services. "New Tyne will be able to provide a high quality service for more people."
