New Seafront Home Plans

RUSTINGTON residents will tomorrow (Friday) have the opportunity to see proposals to demolish and rebuild the landmark seafront building, Princess Marina House.

The RAF Benevolent Fund is launching major consultation to test the public's feelings towards the plans for its home.

Out-of-date accommodation at the home will be replaced by a new complex with 100 sea-facing rooms, of which a number will be earmarked for nursing care.

The remainder will be for short-stay rehabilitation or convalescence and the proposals also include up to 40 sheltered flats for older people.

Air Chief Marshal Sir David Cousins, controller and chief executive of the fund, said Princess Marina House, built in the 1940s and added to 30 years later, was not capable of modernisation to meet new standards of care.

"Only a top-quality, modern replacement facility, complementing the attractiveness of its seafront location, will enable the fund to maintain its high standards of care and meet the changing needs and expectations of residents in this new century.

"We are pleased with the emerging design and believe it will enhance the local environment.

"We are conscious of the need to respect the views of the people of Rustington, which is why we have launched this consultation exercise and will welcome any comments."

Tomorrow's exhibition of the plans is at the Woodland Centre, Rustington.
