New tarmac for Pagham car park

A tenth birthday present has seen Pagham Village Hall's car park given a near £45,000 makeover.

The new porous tarmac surface was laid to mark the first decade since the hall opened in September, 1998.

It replaced the original surface made up of left-over road surface material donated by the county council to save costs.

This had started to become shabby and worn out because of the usage of the hall in its initial years.

The hall's trustees and the parish council combined to enable a more durable and smoother surface to be put down to last for years to come. They also had about 80 parking spaces professionally marked out for the first time.

Parish council chairman Ray Radmall said: "I am delighted with the new surface. It has worked very well with the heavy rainfall we have had recently. At last, we have a fantastic village hall with the proper surroundings."

The facilities were complemented by the one-acre paddock opened by the parish council last August behind the car park after a lease for the former farm land was agreed with owner Derek Bell.
