Ninfield & Hooe Village Voice - August 8

RAINFALL: Diana sounded cheerful when she rang to say that during July we had had 45.5mm of rain, equal to just under two inches, not enough really. We do want rain Diana said firmly but not until they get the wheat off.

Good news about the birds. The second batch consisting of four are flourishing but this weather they tend to stay around the nest! There are two Barn Owl chicks still requiring parental attention.

Diana hasn't managed to actually see them, the minute she goes near the box they hurry back inside.

I am delighted to report the nest in the church porch still seems to be occupied which pleases me enormously. Thank you George.

RSPCA: On behalf of all who stood with collecting tins in various places in Bexhill on Saturday thank you to all who gave so generously. The many dogs, cats and other creatures in the care of the RSPCA will benefit from your contributions.

GARDEN PARTY: The weather certainly could have been kinder for the Garden Party in the church grounds on Saturday. Needless to say numbers were low at the beginning but as the weather improved so did the numbers. The teas, both delicious and much appreciated, were served inside the church. The stalls proved popular, the tombola had many happy customers and a magnificent raffle needed three people to cope with the rush. All visitors and helpers enjoyed the music provided by the Hooe Silver Band. Sincere thanks to everyone who organised the event and worked hard on the day, you created a most enjoyable afternoon. The vicar, Simon, is grateful too and thanks everyone who made the Garden Party possible and raised in excess of 800 for St. Oswald's Church. Well done all of you.

HOOE Old Motor Club: The weather was no better on Sunday but old car enthusiasts ignored it and turned out to enjoy themselves. This popular annual event raises money for good causes and local charities which is much appreciated. Congratulations to the committee and the many proud car owners who helped make the 39th Annual Vintage Car Show a success. More information about the Club's generous gifts when I have it.

The match planned for Saturday against Ringmer was cancelled but the one against Herstmonceux on Sunday was played. Herstmonceux scored 43, Ninfield 80. Congratulations to you, hope you enjoyed your matches.

ST. MARY'S Church: Fingers will be crossed for a warm sunny day for the Summer Fete on Saturday, August 30. Is it too early to mention the need on the day for cakes for the cake stall? She who took over from June will be most grateful for any contributions. There will be the usual stalls bric-a-brac, preserves, plants, bottles and several for children including face painting and a magician.

SAD FORECAST: I was invited to call on friends to see a mole, something I have longed to see. I made the usual remarks, 'Isn't it tiny' etc: Two of their grandchildren were with them and discussion took place about the burial and the need for a cross. The previous week the children had been upset when a bird had flown into a window and broken its neck. This was followed by a burial and included a little cross. On the way back to the house from the garden four-year-old Jake said tearfully, "It is very sad Grandma, that little bird will be dead for the rest of its life".

MOBILE LIBRARY: This is the weekend the library service calls in our two villages. First in Hooe it will be parked opposite Denbigh Court, 1.50pm-2.35pm; from there it is driven to Millfield, in Ninfield, 2.50pm-3.25pm; and the next call is Downsview, 3.40pm-4.05pm. Do hope there is a good selection and some by your favourite authors.

TRAGER EXPERIENCE: I accepted Martin's kind offer to experience Trager. I have no regrets it made me feel utterly relaxed and soothed. It is a form of gentle massage undertaken fully clothed and one feels the results immediately, at least I did. As I was going to see Romeo and Juliet at Manor Barn that evening and a play at the Vaudeville in London the next day I was delighted I went when I did. Ring Martin Clout on 01424 892128 for more information.
