NINFIELD Working Men's Club: Sunday is a Fun Day on the club field with something for all the family - including children's games, raffle and tombola. Among the entertainment you will see the 1066 Falcons, you can look for a bargain at the table sale and visit the clairvoyant. In addition there will be a BBQ. Who could ask for more? The proceeds will be shared between the Ninfield Youth Forum and the club's Christmas parties.

NINFIELD Parish Council: There were some interesting facts about matters concerning the village - the road safety update, three extra cuts, parking area on the recreation ground and completion of the Memorial Hall roof repair. There was further mention of the school travel plan, which will cost a total of 10,570. Currently the school will only be able to contribute 3,500 as they have set aside money to be spent on a bike shed.

Neighbourhood Watch reported on a recent meeting with the police where it was revealed that although the local police had underspent by 120,000 they had decided it was no longer possible to give mobile phones to PCSOs and suggested instead they use email or call 0845 6070999.

The telephone number on the back of the No Cold Calling pack has been changed. If someone calls at your home and endeavours to sell you something call 01323 463 430. Overall it had not been a very satisfactory meeting.

The local Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator asked for the following message to be included this week.

"We wish to make parents of local scooter riders aware of reported dangers while riding along our lanes. Village motorists have reported middle-of-the-road encounters and are worried about future accidents." I will remind you of the September meeting nearer the date.

WINDMILL: It will be possible to visit the windmill at Windmill Hill, 2.30pm to 5pm on Sunday. It will also open on Sunday, August 24 and Bank Holiday Monday (August 25). Admission is by donation and there is plenty of parking space. This is the largest post mill in the UK and has recently been completely restored.

MACMILLAN Cancer Support: On Thursday, August 28, Merriments Gardens, Hurst Green, opens in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, 10am-5.30pm. It will cost 4.50 for an adult, 2 children. As this is such a worthy cause Merriments are donating all the entrance money to the charity. I will repeat this in next week's column just to remind you. Thank you Mrs Goodsell for letting me know about this excellent event.

ST. MARY'S Church: It is hoped the weather will be kind not only for the Bank Holiday weekend but also for Saturday, August 30, for St. Mary's Summer Fete in the rectory and Reading Room gardens, 2pm to 4pm. Mr Zippy an entertainer and Linda, face painter will be there. Included in the many stalls will be preserves, produce, bottles, bric-a-brac, a raffle and tombola plus a cake stall. Cakes will be gratefully received. There will be stalls to interest children. The teas will be delicious. Everyone is most welcome.

NINFIELD Bowls Club: No word from anyone but I am able to tell you the home league match against Westfield on Saturday was cancelled due to the weather. The visitors joined the Ninfield players for tea which the ladies had already prepared and was not to be missed! Here's hopes for better weather next weekend.
