Not too late to become a queen for a year

GIRLS who have dreamed of becoming a queen for a year still have ample time to put their names forward for selection.

Rother chairman Clllr Martin Kenward, ex-oficio carnival president, will be guest of honour tomorrow at the annual Carnival Queen selection dance, organised by Bexhill Carnival Committee.

Judges will be on hand to pick the Bexhill girl and her court who will represent the town for the coming year.The high-spot of their year of office will be the town's Carnival week at the end of July, culminating in Carnival Day when the Carnival Queen and her Court will ride in the traditional place of honour at the head of the procession from Turkey Road, through the streets to the celebrations in Polegrove.

Entry forms for the competition are available from the Observer office at 18 Sackville Road.

Entry is open to any girl aged 14 and over who is resident in the town.

The new queen and her court will be attending functions in the town during their year of office in addition to representing the town at carnivals across the South East.

The Carnival Selection Dance will be held at Sidley Community Centre tomorrow from 7.30pm.

Close competition is already guaranteed for the parallel competition to chose the town's Carnival Junior Princess.

More than 16 girls have already entered for selection for the junior title.

Entries for both competitions will stay open until the start of tomorrow evening's ball.
