OBSERVER APPEAL RACES IN TO THE BIG APPLE

RUNNING UP the total for the Observer's Hospice Appeal - this team are all set to conquer the New York Marathon.

The Hastings Runners are jetting off in November to take part in the gruelling slog, joining 35,000 others in a dash across Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Manhattan.

Andy Broadway said: "We are busy training and currently increasing our long runs over the next couple of months to help us prepare mentally and physically for the 26.2 race in November.

"For two members it will be their very first marathon,

others have completed the London Marathon more than once, but we are all looking forward to experiencing life in the Big Apple for the eight days that we are there."

Husband and wife teams Mike and Sue Hall and Steph and Lee Miller will be joining Andy, Di Nash, Jimmy Williams, Wendy Clark, Alan Gladman and John Wright in the transatlantic adventure.
