Old Toad puts his best paw forward

TOAD the dog is on the road again and taking part in another charity walk.

Express readers will recognise the spritely 18-a-half-year-old mongrel as a veteran fundraiser for Sussex Historic Churches, who despite being canine equivalent of 129, has clocked up an impressive number of miles for the charity.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Toad takes part in the Ride and Stride charity day and will walk a quarter of a mile from his home in St Anne's Crescent to St Anne's Church in Western Road.

Pamela Lady Wedgwood, Toad's proud owner, said: 'He'll be raising in excess of 400 which is fantastic and he's becoming quite well-known in Lewes, lots of children stop us and say, "That's Toad!" and give him a lot of attention.

'He's a bit slower than he used to be but he still gets around and in fact he goes up the stairs faster than I do!'
