A new Crawley supermarket got off to a golden start today, with doors opened by a Team GB Olympic star.
Hockey Olympian and gold medal winner Sophie Bray opened the doors to the new Crawley Aldi, located in Betts Way, this morning.
Doors opened at 8am, with more than 170 queuing customers enjoying a Golden Ticket event.
Golden envelopes were handed to the first 100 people in the queue, each containing a prize.
Lucky customers walked away with the chance to win a variety of prizes including a 4K Smart TV, a SAT NAV, Bluetooth Sound Bar and bags of Aldi shopping.
Milton Mount Primary School Choir attended the opening to entertain customers with Christmas Carols while they shopped in store.
The store donated £250 to the group to support its activities.
Mayor of Crawley, councillor Raj Sharmaand was also in attendance.
The new store has created 30 jobs for the local community, according to a company spokesperon.
Sam Haslam, Aldi Store Manager, said: “It was great to see so many customers at the Crawley store opening this morning, and we would like to thank councillor Raj Sharmaand and Team GB’s Sophie Bray for adding a touch of gold to the event.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to the children from Milton Mount Primary School Choir. Their performance created a lovely festive atmosphere in store.”
