Cinema is family venue

I cannot believe Bognor Regis Town Council is considering letting the former Rick's Cafe to the Polish Tavern Company Ltd, who are seeking a licence to sell alcohol until 11pm.

I am a regular cinema-goer with my young son and his friends.

The cinema is a family venue, and to have what could potentially be a rowdy drinking establishment next door is ludicrous.

Presumably smoking will take place outside the building, and there will be tables for al fresco drinking.

When we are queueing to see a film, or in that vicinity generally, we are likely to be confronted by the customers of the Tavern indulging in both activities.

The licence will permit drinking until 11pm, so coming out of the cinema following a later film will be particularly intimidating for myself and my son.

There already known issues in that area with anti-social behaviour – much of it drink-related.

How on earth then can Bognor Regis town councillors justify this decision?

I can only hope Arun councillors see sense and refuse it a licence.

I thought they had bought the cinema to save it, not to drive people away by this ill-judged decision.
