TASTE OF THE TERRACE: Crawley Town's progress could be squandered

I know it isn't half-term but it seems appropriate to consider what has happened in season 2015/16.

Crawley Town are in 16th place in League Two, not presently in any real danger of relegation but displaying form that makes a bid for the play-offs completely laughable.

With four defeats in the past five games it is safe to say that the Reds are not in good form.

They really disappointed by contriving to lose to a very poor Notts County after dominating proceedings but what of Yeovil Town?

The Glovers have been unable to get out of the relegation places but at least they are battling as shown by a win and five draws in their previous eight games.

They would obviously be tough opponents but instead of being up for the challenge we saw a lacklustre display along the lines of the ignominious FA Cup exit at Huish Park last season.

Reds conceded twice the first being a mistake by Sonny Bradley, sadly not his first to have cost us this campaign.

Tahvon Campbell scored their second with a splendid strike but, having received the ball in space, three players stood off and declined to challenge him.

Defensively we are simply not good enough. At Yeovil the midfield was also lacking as the home side retained possession and we did little to combat that.

It was good to see Lee Barnard finally get off the mark but all of the strikers are on record as saying they must do better and score more goals.

They don’t seem able to follow up their comments. Going forward and in front of goal we are not good enough.

That leaves keeper Callum Preston who has not disappointed but once again Crawley Town are without goalkeeping cover.

That is a ludicrous situation for a professional club to be in.

The managers say they are working hard to bring in more players but in the last week of the transfer window the squad is as thin as ever.

You may have guessed it but I think that is just not good enough.

The blame game does not add to my enjoyment of observation and commentary but the current conduct of the club both on and off the field is deficient in many ways and the fans’ real concern is that the progress of the past few seasons is in grave danger of being squandered.
