Transport issues on the fast track

A rail summit held by Rye MP Amber Rudd saw a firming up of the commitment for a high speed rail-link to London.

At the same time the two rail operators, who run trains in this area, Southern and Southeastern, came bottom of a table for passenger satisfaction.

While a high speed link to London would undoubtedly benefit the area we feel there needs to be a culture of dealing with the basic issues first and making sure we have a reliable and dependable service.

Rather than speeding ahead like a Javelin train , rail operators should be dealing with issues such as the hopelessly overcrowded two carriage trains that run from Ashford to Brighton.

We also need a proper Sunday stopping service on the Marshlink line.

Still with transport, both Conservative and Labour members are claiming credit for saving the Sunday bus service that runs from Hastings through Fairlight, Pett and Winchelsea Beach.

Politics aside - it is great news that we are able to keep this important service.
