Faithful customers brave the elements

IT RAINED on Saturday, we do need the rain, but Saturday was the day of the spring jumble sale of the 12th Chichester Scout group.

The volume of goods for sale spills outside, and we were forced to suspend canopies to protect the wares displayed in the open air – and of course our customers. However that’s what Scouting is all about: preparedness and improvisation.

I do admire our faithful customers who braved the elements and lapped up the goods, our takings were almost as much as last year’s income, in spite of the rain.

Tribute must be paid to the leaders, supporters and parents who freely give their time for this essential fundraising without which, the training of youngsters for the challenges they will face in the uncertain future would cease.

Finally a very, very grateful thank you, to the residents of Parklands, East Broyle etc who faithfully respond to our twice a year request for goods to sell, without your contributions there would, of course, be no jumble sales.

Oh, and by the way, our autumn jumble sale will be on September 22. (Hopefully a warm, dry day).
