LETTER: Need for short term permits

I just wondered if anybody else has had the '˜problem' that I am experiencing.

I have recently had an operation resulting in me not being able to walk for a period of 12 to 14 weeks (backed up totally from the consultant at the hospital).

Unfortunately, this does mean I am totally reliant on my husband to take me out in the car, then via a wheelchair.

The main reason for not being able to go out is the parking situation.

I rang the council to see if there was some form of short term parking permit we could pay for, thus enabling me to use one of the many disabled bays (obviously respecting those totally disabled first) but unfortunately there is no such scheme.

I also rang the government Blue Badge department and explained the situation for a short term permit – but once again the answer was NO.

I do appreciate there are people who abuse the system but it doesn’t mean we all do.

Both John Lewis and Sainsbury’s have been extremely considerate when asked if we could use one of the bays but otherwise it is impossible to go anywhere.

I know in time things will go back to normal and I will be one of the lucky ones who will be able to walk and go out again but what a shame we cannot have short term medical parking permits.
