A bandstand? It's a great idea for the over-80s

WHAT great idea '” let's rebuild Littlehampton's much-missed bandstand.

It's what everyone's saying these days.

Especially our young people, with nothing to do.

Bring back the bandstand!

It's the perfect activity if you are over 80, living in a country where it never rains, and have a council willing to spend huge amounts of money filling the stage with regular performers.

Not to mention living in a town where vandalism has been eradicated.

The Gazette letters page (August 21) had a photo caption saying that bandstands were a feature of almost every seaside town in the early 20th century.

I'm sorry, but there's a reason why they've gone: it's the early 21st century.

Those who support the bandstand should give it a try '” get one built and prove me wrong.

Bayford Road,

Littlehampton

Editor's note: talking of young people, it would be interesting to know what the children at Connaught Junior School think of the debate on the World's Longest Bench, as they were involved in creating some of the designs, working with the studio professionals. These pupils would be more than welcome to join the debate.
