Change makes such a difference to friends

MAY I, through your letters column, thank two dear ladies, I don't know their names, who when they were discharged from Zachary Merton Hospital gave all their loose change to the League of Friends?

We cannot survive without these donations.

In the last 18 months there has been a great call on our money, as things like bedside chairs and visitor chairs have needed replacing.

The biggest and most expensive item was a walking-hoist to help patients walk again after joint replacements, etc.

It is rather like a baby walker but much bigger!

This cost nearly 9,000.

As you are probably aware, the NHS would not repaint the outside walls, so with the help of the Youth Offending Team all the walls have now been repainted.

The flower beds are replanted twice a year and the whole picture is now a tidy and more cheerful place.

The latest request is for new blinds to replace the curtains in the minor injuries unit and we are happy to pay for these.

In total we have spent over 28,000 in the last 18 months.

I would like to thank all Friends of Zachary Merton Hospital and say we have at least two more years to serve and we badly need your support.

Linda Beard,

chairman, League of Friends of Zachary Merton Hospital
