Honour bound

EAST Preston Parish Council, at its monthly meeting on Monday, agreed formally to abandon the Warren Recreation Ground Enhancement project, as it had named its reckless and costly plan which was the subject of the parish poll on August 25, and which was rejected by 78.2 per cent of those voting.

Hopefully, this will augur a new start in the focus and conduct of the council, who will concentrate on managing the grass cutting, tree trimming and garbage collection operations that is its basic duty and put aside fanciful ideas of major projects that have not been authorised by the residents.

It was regrettable, in my opinion, that the chairman and vice-chairman refused to resign their positions in face of the overwhelming rejection of their use of taxpayers' money for this project, which would seem to be the correct and honourable thing to do under the circumstances. It is a further arrogant and disrespectful gesture on their part which the East Preston community should not forget.

Let democracy rule!
