I saw the notice and could not believe it

IT was a devastating discovery last week when I stopped for a walk with my small puppy to see the swans at Brookfield Park, Littlehampton.

I saw the notice about the swan being killed and could just not believe it.

As swans mate for life, I assume this will be the last year we were privileged to see the nesting of the swans and the cygnets.

Reading the article (Gazette, June 21) was even more distressing – the injuries described were horrendous.

I was even more concerned this week when I came back to the lake and there was no sight of the remaining swan or the cygnets.

The nest was empty.

I only hope that the birds have been taken to safety and out of harm’s way.
