LETTER: Bird concern at Gatwick

Regarding the objection from Gatwick Airport to the proposed three small ponds on the proposed site of St Catherine's Hospice at Pease Pottage because it would attract birds.

Perhaps they would do well to study the local ordnance survey map. There are two large reservoirs, many lakes at Tilgate Park, Ifield Mill Pond, Buchan Park, Hedgecourt Lake (actually on the flight path) and Earlswood Lakes, all are in the vicinity of Gatwick Airport.

To additionally point out, Tilgate Lakes are approximately one mile away from the proposed hospice site. All these lakes are home to many water birds plus tree birds in the surrounding woodlands. Also, there is a stream actually adjacent to the airport that is home to herons and other water birds. So what harm can be done with the extra three small ponds at Pease Pottage?
